Origin StoryWhen I first came to ASU in 2018, I was unsure of what I wanted to do with my life. I started out as an English major with a creative writing background in high school. I was unsure of what I wanted in life and cycled through majors. I was trying to find one that would ensure me a solid career after graduation but fulfilled my love of all things creative. That is how I ended up in journalism.
Ever since getting into journalism, I blossomed as a writer. My skills were sharpened and I became knowledgeable about a wide variety of topics. At the same time, my work was getting recognized across ASU and within the larger community. |
Not your typical journalistOne thing that sets my apart from other journalists is my unique mind. When I was two years old I was diagnosed with autism. No one knew what my futrue would look like. When I graduated high school I took a leap of faith and moved from my hometown of Richmond, Virginia to attend ASU.
I went through college as one of the only autistic women I knew. Despite this, I found myself excelling as a journalist and as a student leader. I also started being more open about my autism diagnosis and I believe it gives me a unique perspective in my everyday life and on the field. In 2020, I became president of an organization called Accessibility Coalition, which is an on campus group that advocates and plans programming for students with disabilities. This organization would go on to win Most Promising New Student Organization at the 2022 Pitchfork Awards. I gave the acceptance speech for this award. I have been featured on ASU News and given public speeches about my experiences. |
Life outside of workJournalism is my passion, but when I leave the newsroom for the day, I'm your average yonug adult. I am the youngest of three sisters and a dedicated cat mom. I adopted my cat, Austin, in middle school while volunteering at a local animal shelter. I love all animals, but cats are my favorite. In my spare time, I volunteer with a local cat rescue organization.
Though my career often takes me on many adventures, I'm a homebody at heart. I love painting, baking and creating different crafts that I see on Pinterest. I like watching different movies and TV shows. I'm also a big fan of music and going to concerts. Some of my favorite genres are pop, kpop, indie and punk. I also love going on outings to different parks, stores and resturaunts. Since I lived in Phoenix for four years, I'm re-exploring my hometown, Richmond. I love trying new places, so let me know if you have any recommendations! |
